I go
Within the Street at at Bath Spa University's Locksbrook Campus is the Dark Space. This is a cupboard under the stairs which has repurposed as a small black box for art installations. I had created an audiovisual piece called I go in response to the death of Sinead O'Connor. When first posted on YouTube it amassed over a 1000 views before I edited it and re-uploaded it. The audio version is below:
I thought it would work well in the Dark Space and it was accepted. In discussion with Gary, the curator o of that space, we decided it need a bit more than just the video playing on a loop. So I decided to add some LED candles to make it a reflective space.
The accompanying literature reads:
A lament. An audio-visual piece of 3 minutes including a section of dark screen to allow you time for contemplation.
Should you wish to, taken and turn on an LED candle, and place it in the space as a dedication to someone that's no longer here.
Inside the video played along with the music and then left time for contemplation when the single candle appeared on the screen.
